The Buenos Aires Zoo got a special delivery from the stork recently, three white tigers– triplets– and they’re already winning hearts with their playfulness and rare white fur and blue eyes.
The zoo is holding a contest among it’s adolescent patrons to pick a name for these sweet arrivals. You can see more photos *here*.
White tigers are a variant of the Bengal tiger. They lack the pheomelanin pigment that in normal tigers produces the orange color. And can be seen from time to time in the wilds of Assam, Bengal, Bihar and especially in the former State of Rewa. They are not considered albino, however because they still produce some pigments. Compared to normal tigers without the white gene, white tigers tend to be somewhat bigger, both at birth and as fully grown adults.
