I enjoy hosting a good dinner party, baby shower, birthday party, or any other kind of shindig that the occasion may call for, but even if you enjoy hosting gatherings at your home, there are always stressors that are involved. Here are a few tips to lesson these stressors so that your guests are not the only ones having the great time.
Your guests will be as relaxed as you are so if you’re hustling and scurrying and worrying about, the chances that your guests will be ill at ease are pretty high. One way to make sure that you’re free to chat and mingle is to party prep. If you don’t enjoy cooking, whether it’s in general or just for large groups, then don’t tackle too much. Order food in and make a simple appetizer ahead of time. It’s also more fun if you ask a friend to come help you prepare before hand. A successful party depends more on a relaxed atmosphere than it does on elaborate dishes, snacks or drinks that you don’t feel prepared to handle.
If you’re hosting a big party, spread out your food and the guests will follow. Keeping foods separated will also encourage mingling. Putting different foods in different parts of the room will encourage your guests to walk around to grab what they want and may get them talking to someone they wouldn’t normally go out of their way to converse with. There’s a natural tendency for people to hover near the kitchen which causes over crowding. This can make conversation and comfortable social interaction impossible.
Keep in mind that if you’re hosting a casual get together, these people are some of your favorites. Having a party isn’t about serving the best food or how perfect your décor is. Hosting a party is about celebrating a special event and/or just simply enjoying the company of those you love. Your friends already enjoy you, whether you have the prefect center piece or not.
Concede to the fact that minor damage is part of having a party. So go head and calm down for the night. You can figure out how to remove that stain tomorrow or mop the floor perfectly in the morning. Don’t worry about who did what or how it happened. You may see that stain on the carpet later and be reminded of a great night.
