A clogged drain can be an annoying and difficult problem! Sometimes, chemical drain cleaners simply will not do the trick, and drains must be cleared out manually. Normally, you’d call a plumber to complete such a task, but if you learn how to use an auger–also known as a plumber’s snake–you could clear your drain yourself for a fraction of the cost!
That’s why bobvila.com posted a helpful article for their readers called, “How To: Snake a Drain“, which details not only how to use a plumber’s snake, but how to prevent clogging your drains up again in the future. You will have to purchase or rent an auger, but they usually cost just a fraction of the fee a plumber will charge to come and clean your drain for you, so it pays to know how to do it yourself!
