When looking at efficient and eco-friendly ways to keep your house heated, you may have run across geothermal heat pumps and wondered what they were. This post, we have an overview of them so you can install one today if it’s right for you!
There are two main parts to the geothermal heat pump:
- the well
- the heat pump
- the internal liquid circuit
The well goes under the ground, either vertically or horizontally, and runs either groundwater or antifreeze to capture the heat from the ground. Then, it transfers this heat back to the heat pump in the house and to the closed liquid circuit. This circuit compresses the liquid to make very hot gases. From these, the heat pump heats up the house!
Geothermal heat pumps have a high installation cost, but once installed, money that goes into them are for maintenance – which you’d have to do on a normal heater anyway.
