Tree Skirts Alternatives

I am not one of them, but a lot of people are putting up their Christmas tree before Thanksgiving even rolls around.  If you’re one of those people, check out these non-tradition tree bottoms that throw tree skirts out the window.

Maybe you don’t like dealing with the yards and yards of fabric that pool around the tree every year, or maybe you just prefer a more streamlined look. Or perhaps you’re just looking for something a little bit different this year. Regardless of the reason, if you’ve decided to forego your traditional tree skirt, here are five options to use in its stead.

1. Baskets: Wicker baskets make a clean, classic, and natural substitute for a tree skirt. You can purchase a basket specifically for this purpose from Terrain, or you can visit the tutorial on House and Home to learn how to make your own.

2. Tubs: Galvanized tubs (like the one in this image from Country Living) are an affordable, easy way to surround your tree, and when summer rolls around and Christmas is far from your mind, they also make excellent beverage coolers for outdoor parties.

3. Pinecones: A pile of spray painted pine cones is a cheap and simple way to add some seasonally appropriate sparkle to your tree.

4. Natural Wood Tree Stand: If you like the au naturel look, why not just amplify it by hiding your Christmas tree stump with an even larger stump? For full directions on how to achieve this look, see this tutorial on the Urban Outfitters blog.

5. Crates: Craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Michael’s often carry wooden crates that can be left natural or that can be painted to your liking, much like this North Pole version created by Tatertots and Jello (Image 5). If you have an extra-large tree, consider using an extra-large crate (Image 6). For a tutorial on how to convert a shipping crate into a tree stand, visit Burlap and Denim.
