As a parent, “sick day” is a thing of the past. When you’re a stay at home mom, you’re not even sure the word sick is in your vocabulary unless you’re talking about your children. So how do you manage your down days while still taking care of your kids?
Make it easy for the kids to help themselves: put snacks and juice boxes on easy to reach shelves so that when tummies get hungry they can reach for a snack or a drink without your help.
Make it count when you’re up: grab everything and do everything you can when you actually make it out of bed. If someone asks you for something when you’re down, defer them until the next time you get up.
Be ok with them entertaining themselves as long as they stay safe. When you’re not feeling well, you need time to rest and re-cooperate. Now is not the time to be picky about how your kids are using their time.
The most important step to take when you’re not feeling well is letting things go unti you’re feeling better. It’s easy to feel helpless and overwhelmed when the laundry and dishes start piling up but tell yourself to wait. Letting yourself fully recover will shorten your bought with the virus and make you more productive later. You can also always enlist help from those other members in your family. 😉
