As commercials have been showing us this season, Super Bowl isn’t just about the game, it’s about the food. But, it’s only February and you still have 11 months to go if you’re going to make your new YEAR resolution stick. If you eat a slice of pizza, six wings, chips and dip, a couple of beers and a dessert you can easily ingest 2,000 calories! Using a calorie calculator, I figure that’s a days worth in one meal for me. But who just eats one piece of pizza? You could be ingesting 4,000 if you eat three slices, 10 spicy chicken wings with dressing, snacking on those tortilla chips with buffalo dip, three beers and two brownies. This seems like a lot of food, but space it out over the hours it takes for the game to play out and you can do it all mindlessly.
Even when putting a bit of this and a little of that on your plate it can add up. To make matters worse, it would take five hours to work off that 2,000 calories if you walk briskly at 3.5mph.
Stick with the one plate rule. Get one heaping plate of food, anything you want is allowed but don’t go back for seconds or graze throughout the game.
Instead of getting up during the commercials, sit and watch them. After the final outcome it’s the commercials people will be talking about on Monday anyway.
Don’t mingle right by the food. Place yourself away from the buffet and keep yourself from mindlessly grazing.
Remember, it’s just food so grab what you want, but eat it slowly. Savor the flavors and stop eating when you’re full. If you don’t over-do it you’ll feel loads better in the morning whether your team is headed to Disneyland or not.
