Because we’re getting ready to move, we’ve been really going through all our stuff and purging out all the belongings we REALLY don’t need or use anymore. We probably had 8 garbage bags for Good Will and another 4 of stuff toys the girls had broken, shoes that were falling apart and clothes that were stained. Everything looks so much better AND I feel so good about the work I did!
Spring Cleaning is like cleaning on steroids. You get everything out, you update old furniture, you get all the nook and crannies! It’s awesome and your house looks so much better after. Here are a few tips from The Home Depot:
Sometimes a few simple steps can make a major difference in sprucing up your home for spring. Melissa Michaels of The Inspired Room is an expert at offering simple ideas to make your home cleaner and more comfortable, so we asked her to share with us a few of her spring cleaning tips.
Here are her practical, and sometimes unexpected ways to make spring cleaning simple and effective– so you can start enjoying the season and your sparkling clean home.
Cleaning Tip No. 1: When my old wood furniture starts to get beat up and scratched I turn to one of my favorite products, Old English! A quick wipe across the scratches and dings with the product applied on a rag, and I can instantly refresh the beauty of the piece!
Cleaning Tip No. 2:We love our wood floors and staircase. They are not only beautiful to look at, but easy to maintain. Bona Hardwood Cleaner cleaner helps us keep them looking their best with very little effort. We do a quick staircase cleaning once a week as we walk down the stairs, wiping each step with a clean rag sprayed with Bona.
Cleaning Tip No. 3: I love natural cleaning products, and this little recipe is perfect for cleaning rings around the tub! Mix up a paste of equal parts baking soda and cream of tartar with a squeeze of lemon. Apply the paste around the tub drain and leave for 10 to 30 minutes and then wipe clean! Your tub will smell and look fresh and clean!
Cleaning Tip No. 4:We keep our wood floors dust-free with our flexible dust mop by Rubbermaid. Not only is the dust mop easy to toss in the wash in between uses, but I also love the flexible handle that makes it easy to reach under appliances and furniture.
Cleaning Tip No. 5: For quick and easy clean up of crumbs on the stove top and counters before washing and polishing, we keep a feather duster in the kitchen drawer.
Cleaning Tip No. 6:We disinfect and remove soap scum in the sink with Scrubbing Bubbles! We keep a can under the sink for quick clean up. Even dried on soap scum is quickly dissolved. Just spray on Scrubbing Bubbles and let sit for a few moments. Wipe it off with a paper towel or rag! Not only will your sink look clean again, but it will also cut down on the bacteria at the same time.
Cleaning Tip No. 7: Our window and door tracks need a good cleaning now and then to keep from looking grimy. But with all the corners and hard to reach angles, I need a simple way to get the tracks clean. I vacuum first with a hose attachment and then use a cotton swab dipped in vinegar to wipe out any grime in the hard to reach places.
Cleaning Tip No. 8:Our bathroom exhaust fans get filled with lint and cobwebs. Rather than climbing up on a ladder and removing the vent to clean them, I just reach up with my vacuum hose with a brush attachment and clean them out periodically.
Cleaning Tip No. 9:A cleaning tip I learned from back in my baby-raising days was to grab a baby wipe for quick clean ups around the house! Unscented wipes are an easy spot cleaning solution for carpets, slipcovers and upholstery. Just gently wipe and let dry.
Cleaning Tip No. 10:Did you know car wax can protect tubs and showers, limit soap scum build up and make them easier to clean? Just apply a spray or paste wax to shower and tub walls after cleaning and buff to a shine (do not apply to the floors or it will be slippery!).
