In previous blog posts, I have written a lot about bathroom vanities and most of the vanities that you find at The Tub Connection are complete sets that include the cabinet, countertop, sink, mirror, faucet and installation hardware. However, some of our vanities don’t include the faucet and sometimes people purchase a vanity set that is not inclusive of all of those components. In that case, they may need a single stem bathroom vanity faucet.
One Hole Or More?
There are typically three types of vanity faucets and the type you need is determined by the counter top. There will be three holes or just one hole. If there is one hole then the faucet is called a single stem faucet. That means that the water supply lines are in the one cylindrical tube that has a handle or lever on top.
The lever is used for a few different things: it turns water on or off, it re-positions to add or decrease the flow of water and it also adjusts the hot and cold temperature.
The single stem bathroom vanity faucet allows for one hand adjustment of all aspects of the faucet.
One Can Be Boring
Don’t think that because “single stem” sounds simple that these faucets are boring. They are not. There is a very big variety in the styling and finishes of these single stem bathroom vanity faucets.
I am posting several different photos today to show you some of the traditional and contemporary styles. Some I love and some not so much, but to each their own, right?
Short Or Tall Faucet
In my mix of images today, I have included single stem bathroom vanity faucets that are short and some that are tall. The short styles are to be used with basin sinks. Basin sinks are bowl type sinks that sit below the countertop. In that instance a short faucet is appropriate.
In the event that your vanity has a vessel sink, then you need a tall faucet. A vessel sink can be round, oblong, square or rectangular and it sits on top of the countertop. Since you have added the height of the vessel sink to the vanity the faucet will be about 12 inches tall. This gives the faucet enough height above the vessel sink that the water can flow into the sink.
Faucet Finishes
Our single stem bathroom vanity faucets come in the three most popular finishes; Polished Chrome, Brushed Nickel and Oil Rubbed Bronze. If you go to our website, you will notice that the brushed nickel and the oil rubbed bronze faucets vary a bit based on the manufacturer.
This is common and you should just decide if you like for your oil rubbed bronze to be more blackish or bonzey. Some brushed nickel will take on a tiny bit of yellowishness.
Choose your faucet based on the number of holes in the countertop if it is pre-drilled for a faucet and by the type of sink you have.
I hope you enjoy the pictures and the video. I did not help to make the video, however, I wanted you to see that we do all the hard work for you because our countertops are pre-drilled for the faucet.
