There are some many disposable containers that can be re-purposed into vases or storage containers, that it is possible to cut down on waste generation in the home.
This article shows several flower arrangements in vegetable cans that have brightly colored labels so they only had to be rinsed out, filled with water and placed on the table. Other photos show cans that have been cleaned, scrapped and painted colors that match a certain holiday or theme. Be sure ,when using cans that, they are cleaned very well and are colorful or nicely painted to match other decorations so they don’t look tacky.
Starbuck glass bottles or glass water bottles from Perrier make lovely vases. Add a ribbon or raffia grass to add a bit of pizzaz and fill with a few buds or fill with an abundance of flowers. Drop some marbles or decorative glass beads into the bottle adds a bit of glitz and can aid in emphasizing a particular color.
For a larger centerpiece, take the label off of a coffee can and wrap it with burlap, adding a raffia ribbon to secure it. Another idea is to cut sticks the height of the can and glue in place or tie snugly with bow made from twine.

I am all for creative ideas that are conducive for the environment. My sister is a one who attends many green social affairs that are sponsored for charity and to promote the environment. One of those is the annual Captain Planet galla which is Ted Turner’s organization. She has taught me to be mindful of things we can recycle and reuse. This is one idea people should consider.
This is a good tip. I try my best to be green. I have some reusable shopping bags made of plastic that weigh as much as a couple of dozen disposable plastic shopping bags. While the type I have are recyclable, I always try and remember that Recycle is last of the three R’s of going green (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) for good reason – it does take a substantial amount of energy to recycle.
