Using raised garden beds can reduce the hassle for you when you’re out in the garden. Not only does it keep the soil right where you want it, but you don’t have to bend over so far to plant! Here are some tips for properly planting an elevated garden:
- Dig out the hole for you plant with a garden trowel and sprinkle some fertilizer into the hole.
- Set the plant in its hole and backfill. Don’t pack the soil tight.
- Make sure the taller plants are on the backside of the bed so they don’t block sunlight from the shorter plants.
- Use a watering wand to thoroughly soak the plants.
- Put 2 inches of alfalfa straw around the plants and soil to prevent weeds from growing and to keep the nutrients in the ground.
