I found this trick on Pinterest quite a while ago and it has changed my life! Ok, maybe not my life, but my design tactics for sure! You can make any wood sign you find online, as long as you have a couple of supplies, for pennies!
You’ll need:
- Wood
- A Sharpie
- A Computer
- A Printer
- A ball point pen
Instructions:
Find a font that you love and print out the sign exactly the way you want it to look. Place the paper on the wood, securing it down somehow so it doesn’t wiggle around. Trace over the lettering and pictures with the ball point pen, making an slight indent into the wood, you can feel if you’re pushing hard enough. When you’re done take the paper off the wood and trace over your indents with your sharpie. Done! Ridiculous right? How easy is that? And you get a great professional looking sign every time. You can paint the wood first if you want different colors and if you’re MUCH better with a paint brush than I am, you can trace over the indents with paint as well. Check out the super cute sign that I made for a ridiculously place bathroom in our new place (seriously if you didn’t know better you’d walk in there thinking it was the coat closet) and it only took me about 15 minutes!
