Change is hard. Change can be good, and change can be bad, but it’s always hard. Usually we’re looking for ways to be, do and act better but once we find something we can do, it’s hard to stick to it.
In order to believe in a new identity, we first have to prove it to ourselves. If we want to boost our self confidence we need to set ourselves up for a moment of success. To change a behavior for good, we have to start changing the way we see ourselves.
This all depends on whether you’re setting appearance based goals, or performance based goals. Usually we try to achieve results before proving to ourselves that we can (such as loosing weight or eating healthy) and it should be the other way around.
Set yourself up with small steps and small wins. Examples:
Weight loss- Identify as yourself as a mover. Buy a pedometer. Start with 50 steps a day-after you get home from work. The next day, 100 steps. Increase your movements by 50 steps a day. By the end of the year you’ll be walking 10,000 steps a day.
Be a better friend- If you call one friend every Saturday and repeat the same people every three months, you’ll stay close to 12 old friends throughout the year.
Identify who you want to be, how you can be that type of person, and set yourself up for success.
