A recent study found that your bedroom may be making you fat! Believe it or not, if you are craving the kinds of foods in the morning that you know are bad for you, it could very well be that you are not getting the type or quality of sleep that your body is desperately seeking. This lack of restful sleep could be leading you to compensate by taking in foods that you should avoid regularly.
In a recent interview, Sleep Specialist and Psychologist Dr. Michael Breus suggested that you take a tour of your bedroom and see if there are things that could be keeping you from getting the kind of sleep that you need. Here are some of the things that Dr. Breus suggested that you take a look at.
First, go into your bedroom and allow your senses to be your guide. Is the room too bright? If so, replace the bulb in your overhead or night stand lamp with a 45 watt light bulb. This will greatly decrease the glare and the brightness of your room.
Next, take a serious look at your pillow. Is is a cheap one that you picked up? If so, be sure to spend the amount of money you need to get the pillow that is right for you. The alignment of your head, neck, and back are very important in helping you fall asleep at night.
Are you a person who needs to have noise to fall asleep? If so, be sure to use a lower toned fan or radio. Don’t play something that keeps your mind working at night, but can soothe you. If you are a person who needs the television to fall asleep, go ahead and use it, but also use a timer to turn it off.
Scents can greatly aid in helping you sleet at night. Lavender is one of the most popular scents that can aid in sleeping. If you are not a fan of lavender, ask a qualified scent specialist to help find one that is right for you.
Leave nothing to chance. Look at everything as you seek to make a more comfortable place to sleep. As you gain better sleep at night, your cravings for those “bad” foods may wane and help you lose the weight you want to lose.
