Is your tub drain clogged with hair and other debris? You may not need to call a plumber to unclog it. In most cases you can unclog it yourself with the right tools.
- For most blockages, simply bend a coat hanger into a hook and use it to fish out foreign objects. When you’ve removed as much blockage as possible, turn on the hot water to flush out remaining debris.
- If the drain is still clogged, the next tool you’ll want to try is a plunger. Make sure you use the right kind of plunger–not a toilet plunger. In order to create enough suction, you’ll have to plug up the overflow drain and fill the tub with enough water to cover the base of the plunger.
Most clogs should be no match for these unclogging methods, but if you’re still having trouble, augers and chemical drain cleaners are also helpful.
