When you turn on your faucet or shower, do you ever wonder how exactly water gets there? What is the system that allows you to have access to water so easily and cheaply? This post, we want to go over the basics of pluming in the home so you have a better idea of what it entails!
First, your home gets water from a water source, usually from a water main running below the street. From there, it goes through a water meter and main shut off valve into your home’s plumbing. Then, it travels through an inch-wide water supply line to your water heater. In modern homes, the water supply pipes coming off of the water heater are made of copper. The bigger these pipes are, the better your water pressure. There is also a drainage system that needs to slope downward 1 inch for every 4 feet it travels across to not clog.
There’s way more to your pluming than this – get a more detailed overview in the video below!
