Few people have the strength to throw out a perfectly good something. There is a temptation to keep paper bags, plastic containers, clothing that is too small or out dated.
Consequently, open up the cabinet doors or closet doors in homes everywhere and you will gasp at the clutter and junk that is stored there. Out of sight, out of mind, can be more than careful saving or clutter-bugging. It can be hoarding.
Here are some encouraging tips to get you on the track to clutter free storage:
1. Open doors and drawers to cabinets, closets, dressers. Does the contents spill out or appear is total disarray?
2. Ask “why am I saving this?” If there doesn’t seem to be a good answer, pitch it or donate it.
3. Determine whether the item or items actually belong in the cabinet, drawer, etc. Relocate it to the appropriate place, if not.
4. If there is just a drop of cleanser, lotion, shampoo left in a bottle, bite the bullet, either use it today or throw it away.
It is always a good idea to reuse and re-purpose items, but at some point, a distinction has to made between good stuff worth saving and trash.
