Science has studied and found that having daughters creates a healthier living environment for parents.
Daughters make men more generous. A recent study found that when a CEO has a daughter, especially if it’s a first child, the salaries of his employees tend to go up, especially those of the female employees which get a 1.1% pay increase.
A 2009 study found that people with daughters were more likely than others to support policies that supported gender equality. This effect was especially strong in dads.
Researchers found that 67% of Baby Boomer women were giving their parents some form of financial support compared with them men which was only 62%. Women were also more likely to talk about their parents’ long-term care and finances.
After studying many different family combinations, researchers found that parents of two girls were the happiest. The reasoning may be because daughters are unlikely to fight, will play nicely and are generally a pleasure to be around. That’s good news for this Tub Connection Blogger!
Another reason is because middle-aged daughters reported good relationships with their moms. The relationship between a mother and their adult daughter is one in where both handle being upset with each other better than any other relationship. These relationships are especially valuable because the two parties care for one another and share a strong investment in the family as a whole.
So what’s the upside for the father?? Fathers are found to live a little over a year longer for each daughter they have. According to a 2006 study sons have no effects. Both daughters and sons tend to reduce a mother’s lifespan on average.
However, one small study showed that teen aged daughters were more likely to give their mom’s health advice thus improving their over all health. One researcher urged that future studies should be done on “this unique relationship and it’s potential for daughter-initiated health education.”
