My wedding anniversary is coming up and it’s been seven years. Some people call this the seven year itch but I’m looking forward to another great year to live out our happily ever after. Now if life were perfect and things always went our way, my husband and I would have a plethora of money and we’d be living it up on our anniversary date, however funds are tight and I’m pretty sure our plans are limited to eating dinner as a family and then watching some episodes of Psych on Netflix. However, I still want to get my husband a little something and these DIY projects are perfect seeing as I have everything sitting around the house. The seventh year is traditionally copper, so I started looking around for projects I could do with pennies. Here are two that I found.
PENNY KEYCHAIN
- Pennies
- Salt and Vinegar
- Key Chain
- Drill
Find pennies made in the years that mean something significant to you. Your anniversary, birth dates, first kiss… Soak them in a salt and vinegar mixture for about five minutes. Take them out and scrub them up, I’ve heard an old tooth brush works well. After they’re shiny and pretty again, take a drill and drill a small hole in the top of each penny. Put them, chronologically, on a key ring. You’ve officially made a crafty and personalized gift for your someone special.
PENNY ART
- Pennies
- Frame
- Craft Paper (brown and red)
- Glue
Following the same line as the penny key chain, find three pennies that mean something to you. Glue the brown craft paper to the back of the frame. Glue the three pennies to the paper, vertically. Cut out a small heart, roughly the same size as the pennies. In the place of a “fourth” penny, glue the heart.
