There have been many versions of this craft but this is one that has been simplified for those who want to try a craft, but don’t want to invest a lot of money or time in it.
The result is a wonderful smelling kitchen during the “making” process and a nice aroma once the craft is finished.
Here is a list of the necessary items:
- 1 cup applesauce
- 1 1/2 cups cinnamon
- 2 Tablespoons ground cloves
- cookie cutters
- ribbon or monofilament
Simply, mix the applesauce and 1 cup of the cinnamon in a large bowl and mix it really well. This mixture is going to be very thick so you will likely need to get your hands into the bowl and make sure the consistency is the same throughout. Now add the rest of the spices and finish the mixing. It is ok to add a little more applesauce or spices if the mixture is too wet or too dry.
Sprinkle some cinnamon on the countertop and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Use the cookie cutters to create the shapes. Poke a hole in the ornament where you want the ribbon to go through.
Bake the ornaments on a non-stick sheet at 200 degrees F for 1 – 1 1/2 hours. Remove from oven and allow to sit overnight. The ornaments should be rock hard.
Loop the ribbon through the holes and your wonderful smelling ornaments are ready to hang.
