In Week 10 of our One Room Challenge, we installed ceiling beams. We switched from the original plan of a coffered ceiling in order to save time. Beam installation was finished over the weekend (although a little work still needs to be done). The coffered ceiling may have looked more refined, but would have taken about a month for the carpentry work. The beams are real wood – ambrosia maple – but are purely decorative rather than functional. Their cost came in at under $2,000.
Key Takeaways:
- Sarah and Emmett are working on the 10th week of the formal living room stage of their “One Room Challenge”.
- They have installed the crossbeams and wooden ceiling beams over the weekend. Emmett is also installing the moulding.
- There are only a few more cosmetic details, such as painting, wallpapering and milliwork, remaining before the project is complete.
“We still have to fill the nail holes and joint lines with wood filler, but the beams are installed, as well as the brackets.“
