With the Holidays fast approaching, there are several things you can do to improve, even transform your home décor. Here are five things or items for you to look at that can change the way your home looks for the upcoming days.
First, take a look at the curtains . Curtains can add amazing style to any room, provided they are not just basic window coverings. Take some time to replace or upgrade the style you have in your rooms.
Second, take a look at the wall plaques. Take some time to add more creativity in the items you display on your walls. This does not mean to eliminate your family photos, but add in little (or larger) touches that express your personality. Even artwork that your kids have created, when done correctly, can bring an amazing touch to your home.
Lighting is crucial to any room. Use candles, sconces, or other lighting options to bring a new “light” to the room. Even refurbished lights can do wonders for a room. If you have difficulty in deciding exactly what you need to do to the lamps in the room, see if you can try a different lampshade. Often this can totally give a new look from something that used to be boring.
What room is complete without furniture. The furniture in a room should be comfortable and functional of course. However, you do not have to break the bank to achieve the look you need. There are unlimited numbers of ways to reupholster a chair (or couch). Or, use one of my favorites and purchase some fancier coverings. It is cheaper and you can order online if you need.
One of the most overlooked items in making the home really take on a new feel is the fragrance of the room. As mentioned above, the use of candles is great for this purpose. You can also use flowers, diffusers, and any other number of items. One of my favorites around Christmas is to pick up cinnamon sticks or cones at the store and place them in a dish or in a plant. This really makes for some inviting scents.
Finally, be sure to do some tidying up around the house. It is so easy to overlook something that you see everyday. Clean the windows and be sure to remove any cobwebs or other clutter you see. This is always a refreshing way to help bring the feel into a room that you want!
You have some really good tips here and I love candles but I have family members that are allergic to them so I can’t leave them out and about in the house for very long. Thank you for the great ideas though I will see if I can get any of these incorporated into my home with out bothering anyone that is what I will do.
I like the way the curtains are arranged in the photo. It reminds me of how hotels decorate their windows. It is also a technique that is often used in the hotels and clubs on South Beach. I have even seen sheer white curtains arranged in a similar manner at hotel pool side decks where they rent the high priced cabanas. It really brings a touch of elegance to the ambience.
This drapes arrangement is a very unique idea. I think everyone has more than a good amount of canned foods. Isn’t that what is being used in the photo? It’s more creative than the typical shopping bag approach. Just about every department store and supermarket chain is offering their brand of the reusable shopping bag. But are they better for the environment? It depends on how you look at it.
