Flowers are a lovely hostess gift and are always welcome. How much better if the gift can be eaten as well.
Make lovely centerpieces for your Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners using plants that are edible and can be added to salad, drinks or alone.
Put together a vase of flowers and herbs like Carnation, Rosehips, Mint, Thyme and chilies. The Carnation will add a bit of peppery spice to a salad. Rosehips have a nutty cranberry flavor. Add mint to a glass of iced tea or make your own Mint Julep by adding 4 fresh mint leaves to 2 1/2 oz bourbon whiskey, 1 tsp powdered sugar and 2 tbs water and pour over shaved or crushed ice. Use a tall glass and be sure to serve with a straw. Thyme adds a lemony taste to any dish while chilies are going to heat things up.
Other amazing, simple and edible table centerpieces are bowls of nuts and pinecones with springs of bay leaves, kale or lettuce. Another fun idea is to line skewers with grapes and some with grape tomatoes, place the colorful skewers in a wide rimmed vase and eat or share a skewer of fruit.
Setting a beautiful table is easy and less cluttered if the decorations are part of the meal.
