This is one of the coolest DIY projects yet! Can’t wait to try this one.
The great thing about this one is with this method of decorating the bottom of the glass, different sized glasses can become a “set.” As long as the glasses are flat bottomed they can be painted using this method. Add a glass pitcher to the mix and you have a customized tumbler with pitcher set.
You probably already have all the supplies required, here is the check list:
1. Filtered, room temp water
2. Round shallow wide rimmed bowl – big enough to dip glasses in easily
3. Nail Polish – any color, any brand, metallic are fine – glitter is difficult
4. Nail Polish Remover – clean up and removal of nail polish
5. Clear Polish – protective coat after pattern is dry
6. Tooth picks – to spread polish and create pattern
7. Painters tape – optional, tape off bottom rim of glass so only the bottom is being decorated
After gathering all the supplies fill the bowl with water, tape up the glass, and begin pouring the nail polish. Just add one drop of any color of polish, let the polish settle, and a drop of a second color inside the first drop. Once there is no movement in the water, take the tooth pick and move the paint to create a unique, one of a kind pattern. Do not break the ring of color during the mixing process. Dip the bottom of the glass into the bowl, be sure to dip the glass at an angle and very slowly. Dipping the glass straight into the water or too fast will break the color ring and the paint pattern will be destroyed.
It will likely take several tries before you feel totally comfortable and the glasses look exactly the way you want them to. The great thing is that polish remover allows you to try and try as many times as you like. These glasses must be hand washed to protect their unique paint.
