Does your home have outlets that are wearing out, or letting plugs come loose? Fortunately, replacing them is not something you have to ask an electrician to do. You can do it yourself with very few tools, following simple instructions.
- Turn off the power to the outlet.
- Unscrew and remove the cover plate.
- Use a voltage tester to make sure the outlet is not conducting electricity.
- Unscrew and pull out the old outlet.
- Note where each wire is attached before removing.
- Remove the wires and attach them to the new outlet, removing break-off tabs if necessary.
- Push outlet back into place.
- Screw the outlet and cover plate back on.
The only tools you need are a screwdriver, some pliers, and your own two hands!
