In our neighborhood we have neighbors really getting into the Halloween spirit. There are several houses that I don’t even want to walk up to! With this in mind I decided that I wanted to decorate my house but have it cute and kid friendly instead of scary. I saw a picture of some window monsters on … some social media network, and I decided to give it a try. I just did this yesterday and as soon as I did two or three of them, I knew I needed to start taking pictures and share. I LOVE the way they turned out and so do my girls.
Window Monsters
Materials:
- black plastic table clothes (which is the cheapest way, if you want to re-use them, grab some quality paper or even fabric)
- Matalic Sharpie Markers
- Scissors
- Tape
1. I looked up “monster silhouettes” on the computer to give me ideas. I also re-called two of our favorite movies, “Monsters Inc. and “Monsters vs. Aliens” for some inspiration.
2. I started by cutting the table clothes in half.
3. I then measured the windows and cut each piece accordingly. This way I knew how much room I had that each monster would fit in the window.
4. Start drawing. The wonderful thing about black is that you can’t see through it. If you make a mistake, it’s ok! Just redraw it- even with another marker color so you don’t get confused. As you can see in this picture, I tried several different ideas with his mouth before I settled on one.
5. Cut out your monsters body and their other features- kind of like a Jack-o-lantern.
6. Tape your monster onto your window.
7. Pull down the blinds and turn on the light!
Note: I don’t have blinds in one of my rooms so I had to hang up a white blanket. It looks fine from the street!
