I don’t think there is anything lovelier than sitting on your front or back porch with your “cuppa” watching the birds eat and listening to them sing. I recently found this out before church one morning on my Aunt’s back porch. It was awesome to see the different types of birds flitting around, singing songs to their friends and getting their fill of seeds and freeze dried worms. I enjoyed it so much in fact that I am determined to have at least one bird feeder in my new house (to go along with the bird baths that I will be making). Here are some simple instructions for any beginner to feed the birds, without the house to worry about.
Materials
- 4 cups mixed bird seed
- 3/4 cup all purpose flour
- 1/2 cup water
- 3 T. corn syrup
- cooking spray
- waxed paper
- cookie cutters
- twine
Directions
- Combine birdseed, flour, water, and corn syrup in a mixing bowl.
- Spray cookies cutters and a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Using a spoon, pack the bird seed mixture into the cookie cutters.
- Use a straw to poke a hole for the twine. (Leave the straw in the mixture)
- Let dry overnight. If the mixture is still wet, bake in the oven on the lowest setting for an hour or so.
- Hang outside for the birds!
