What can’t you find on Craigslist? This dresser was a nice, sold wood piece that was just a bland color with big, round wood handles for $40 on Craigslist.
A new or antique dresser would cost much more than that, so this dresser was a great find. The author had some skills in adding just the right texture and color to distress the paint finish, then she added some different handles and wow, what a nice piece of furniture.
Here is how she did it.
- Choose the paint color and add a little plaster of paris to it to add thickness and texture, paint it on.
- Once the paint is dry,dry brush on a slightly darker shade of the paint all over and allow to dry,
- Scrape or sand the edges of drawers, etc for the distressed look.
- Add ceramic or metal handles or pulls to create the exact look to compliment your home.
The best thing about painting or refinishing furniture, besides the savings, is the satisfaction that you did it yourself!
