Decorating Tips- Kids Rooms

If you have kids you know that even in this day and age when everything comes fully equipped and in a box, kids love to use their imaginations and change the ordinary into extrodinary thing from other worlds.  When designing a child space that is used as often as a bedroom, you have to find something that celebrate their imaginations and preserve creativity all while being functional.  Here are a few things that are suggested when decorating your child’s room, no matter the age.

Loft beds or bunk beds are attractive to children for several reasons.  Something about sleeping at that height gives us a feeling flying.  Whether their using theirs as a tree house or a rocket ship, these beds can be an ingenious space saver while channeling their energy and getting them to want to go to bed at night, even if they don’t want to fall asleep right away.

Most kids use their rooms for several activities: play, study and sleep.  This causes a need for the room to be multifunctional and flexible.  This isn’t an easy thing to do since most kids’ rooms are the secondary or even third or forth bedroom and thus don’t come with a lot of space.  DIY is trendy right now so do some research and come up with a fun way to create a space that is multifunctional while still being kid friendly and appealing.    Having a piece that they’ll get excited about will help them want to do their studies.

Before setting up your room make a room draft and figure out all the fun and creative ways you can add storage and special touches around the room.  Giving your children a space to display their memories is always a hit.

Combine two of these tips to create a fun and functional piece in your child’s room.  Create a storage area for their things and stack them in away that creates stairs up to their loft bed.  You get twice the use in half the space. (Hmm I may have to try this for my daughter’s bunk beds.)

Girls’ rooms don’t have to be stuffy or look like it was doused with several bottles of Pepto.  Creating a space that is light and airy while using certain colors and textiles can add a feminine touch to any room.  A great tip for girls is having a trundle or larger bed since sleepovers are bound to happen.
