Buying clothes is never a fun task for a man, especially if it’s for dress clothes. However there’s nothing better than a man who cleans up nicely. Shopping for something that makes you look like James Bond is easier said than done. Even if you’re not looking for the perfect suit, but just something to wear out on the town or to the office, how often do you pick something out in the store and when you get home, it just doesn’t seem to fit right, even though you tried it on? To avoid these mishaps there are a few easy steps you can take to ensure a great fitting shirt.
Slim styles are in which can be flattering but often give men a shirt that look great when standing but leaves little to the imagination when you sit down. Solution? Sit down when trying on shirts to ensure that they’ll look and fit great in any position. Shirts should have a clean straight line both when you’re standing and sitting.
Believe the shoulders are too small? Your problem may be the arm holes are too low. Move your arms around to make sure you can reasonably lift them up without untucking your shirt. If you can’t, take it off and opt for a different style.
Generally manufacturers build in shrinkage for the collar so it’s ok if your shirt collar is a bit loose in the store, however you want to only be able to slip in your index finger between your shirt and neck after a few washes. Your collar points should be long enough that, after tying your tie, they still touch your shirt. Some fashion experts say that your collar tips should also be long enough to stay tucked behind your jacket.
Sleeves should come down to the webbing between your thumb and index finger when your cuffs are unbuttoned. When they are buttoned they should sit just below your wrists. This will keep your cuffs still and keep them from riding up your arm. If you’re able to get the first but not the second simply moving the cuff button down may be a quick fix.
