The bedroom is our safe haven, the place where we go to relax at the end of a long hard day, to forget the trials and hardships that have come at us in the world so that we can wake-up refreshed and ready to start all over tomorrow. How do you make the most of this space, if you don’t have a lot of room? I’d would arguably say that the nightstand is the most important place to start. This is where you can put all the things you need to make your sleeping experience comfortable. However, if you don’t have enough room for a nightstand, what do you do??
Take a look at these simple tutorials for bedside tables:
You’ll need following: A cutting board, coated steel wire, ferrules 4 pieces (remember to select the correct ferrule size for the wire diametre), pincers, a drill and a hook.
If you want to cover your cutting board with a leather surface you’ll need: Leather, scissors, adhesive (VTR), a brush and a belt punch.
Use your pincers to clip two identical pieces of wire.
Measure and drill 4 holes in the cutting board diagonally opposite each other, as shown in the photo in the next collage.
Cut a piece of leather same size as your cutting board.
Mark your holes and punch 4 holes with your belt punch.
Apply VTR with a brush.
Place the leather on top of the cutting board and let it dry.
Thread the wire through the 4 holes as shown in the photo.
To be able to hang the table, simply pass the wire ends through the ferrul and return to the other side to form the eye leaving a short dead end.
Pass each wire end through an ferrul and return to the other side to form the eye leaving a short dead end.
Crimp the ferrul with your pincer repeat until you’ve secured all ends.
Now you’re finished, place a hook in the ceiling and enjoy your floating table.
Swing Shelves (translated from French)
You’ll need: 2 solid oak boards (80 x 20 cm), rope (about 5 meters), 2 hooks
To Do:
8 holes are drilled in the boards: one at each corner. (Drill a hole in each corner, 8 holes total)
Then we put on the rope starting below the board lower. Incidentally, I put there some wooden beads. (String the boards starting at the bottom take the rope up through both boards. You’ll need four equal pieces of rope. She added some cute wooden beads to separate and secure the rope. Make sure that you leave space between each board, creating the space between the shelves.)
Once it has nodes (not too tight) under each board, we hang the two strings to previously screwed to the wall brackets. And now is the most tedious step … nodes are moved with the help of a level for the two boards are straight. It is not clear to set, it is better to be two for this step. (Install the wall hooks. Tie your loose rope ends at the top and and hang your shelves, use a level to make sure your boards are straight -you wouldn’t want your stuff to slide off and hit you in the head!- and adjust the rope accordingly. This can be the most tedious part of the project. )
What you’ll need:
-Two pieces of hardwood (I used oak) 14″ x 7 1/4″ x 3/4″ and 14″ x 1 1/4″ x 3/4″
-Two small pieces of plywood 2 3/8″ x 1 7/8″ x 3/16″ and 7 1/4″ x 2 1/4″ x 3/16″
-5 short screws (1 5/8″)
-1 long screw (2 1/2″)
-Miterbox saw
-Drill
-Stain
-Super glue/Wood glue
How to make it:
- -Use your saw to cut both ends of the long, thin piece of oak (which will be the support underneath) at 45 degree angles.
- -Stain all four pieces of wood and let them dry according to the directions of your stain.
- -Attach the larger piece of plywood to the back of the table by drilling two holes through the plywood big enough for the screw to go through then line it up on the back of the board and drill two pilot holes in the back of the oak then screw the two screws in place through these holes.
- -Drill two holes through that plywood underneath where it is attached to the oak – these will be where the screws go into the wall later.
- -Use the glue to attach the smaller piece of plywood to the bottom of the angled wood then drill a hole through both – where a screw will go through into the wall later.
- -Drill a hole through the top of the angled piece that is slightly wider then your screw and attach it to the bottom of your table by laying your table, with the top on the floor and back side (the plywood) against a wall, center your support piece on the bottom of the table top with the plywood piece sitting flat against the wall, then attach with a short screw.
- -Now you can use two short screws through the large plywood to attach it to the wall and the long screw to attach the bottom support to the wall. Make sure your table is level before screwing it in.
