We bring you quite a few articles about how to save money with your home, through improved efficiency and buying the right products, but how much do your appliances really use? We’re gong to help you figure that out today.
There are a few ways to figure out how much energy your technology is using. The easiest way is to find the Energy Guide label somewhere on the product. This handy sticker will give you an approximate range of energy cost for the appliance. The only problem is that not all products will have this label, so if you can’t find it on there then you’ll have to do some work yourself.
There are some other ways to monitor energy consumption without resorting to some heavy math. You can use an electricity usage monitor for under fifty dollars, all you have to do is plug the machine into the monitor and it will give you an accurate measurement of how efficient it is. Or you can even install an entire monitoring system for your house. However if your whole goal is to save money, then maybe the math is the best option.
In order to figure out efficiency on your own, you’ll need to find some information. The first thing you need is to keep track of how long your appliance is used every day. Then you’ll need to find the wattage. This will be found much more commonly than the energy guide, if this can’t be found on the product itself, check your user manual that came with it.
After you have that information, you can use the formulas found here: (http://1.usa.gov/1enwNoa) to figure out your annual cost of that one appliance. If the number is too high for your pocketbook, you can change the machine to a lower setting, or it might even be time to buy a new one. Either way, happy savings!
