Cotton is a comfortable and versatile material, perfect for bedding, towels, upholstery and drapes. Let’s go over the types of cotton so you know which ones will work best for your decor.
- Percale and Sateen – Weave varieties. Percale has a plain weave with equal warp and weft threads. Sateen is composed of a satin weave, and has additional filler threads for a softer, more luxurious appearance.
- Pima – Generic name for extra-long staple (ELS) cotton grown in the US, Australia, and Peru.
- Supima – 100% American Pima cotton.
- Canvas – Firm, medium-weight to heavyweight plain-woven cotton. Coarse and stiff, it is great for upholstery and curtains.
- Cotton Duck – Like canvas, but more closely woven, slighter in weight, and more malleable.
