In the early 1900’s you could find cast-iron bathtubs in many homes in America. They were the standard that many homes began to use as bathing became more and more popular (thankfully).
Fast forward a century and now you find bathtubs of all different sizes and shapes in American homes. You still find clawfoot bathtubs, which were the original style that most homes had. Today, you find freestanding bathtubs of all dimensions made from a variety of materials.
Gone are the days of only cast-iron bathtubs. Today, you can find copper, steel, composite, and acrylic. Some of the materials make shaping bathtubs much easier. This is especially true of acrylic. Since the material can be easily melted, extruded or vacuum-formed, acrylic has made the science of shaping bathtubs into an art.
You can find clawfoot bathtubs made from acrylic, but you can see many other shapes as well. Rectangular bathtubs, corner tubs, jetted bathtubs (in whatever shape you like), high-backed slipper freestanding tubs and many others are all available.
Acrylic makes shaping the tub easy and it is very lightweight as well. This makes moving or installing the tubs very easy, especially compared to those heavy, cast-iron, steel or copper tubs. Whereas it may take three or four people to move some of the other types of bathtubs, acrylic can usually be moved by two people. One person can sometimes move a tub, but for safety, two should always be used.
Acrylic freestanding tubs are easy to care for. You do not need to use any abrasive cleaners on the tub. In fact, it is strongly recommended that you avoid those types of cleaners as they may scratch the acrylic. There are plenty of milder cleaning solutions available and even some very inexpensive home-made cleaners you can get or make.
Once you have installed an acrylic tub you do not have to worry about it. The material is very durable and will not warp or bend. Acrylic tubs are re-enforced (normally with a fiberglass core) that helps the material keep its shape.
Shop today and discover the versatility of acrylic tubs. You can choose from a wide variety of models, shapes, and sizes. The tubs are easy to care for and they are easy to install. Once you purchase one, you will enjoy it for as long as you own it!
