I’m going to tell you something about cast iron pedestal tubs that may blow your mind. All cast iron tubs are the same color as your cast iron frying pan before they are painted on the exterior and coated with snow white porcelain on the interior. Can you picture that?
Au Naturale
There are people that always want to go as natural as possible. They find an antique cast iron tub and find beauty in the tub even if the white paint has been worn off. You can find tubs installed in homes that have the rusted iron exposed on the exterior.
Our Top Quality Cast Iron Tubs are heavy iron and they have an smooth Porcelain Interior. You will note that the outside of the tub will have a slight texture. Remember that it is molded metal.
We call this cast iron pedestal tub “Polk“. The style of tub is double ended or dual ended. Meaning that the tub is the same on both ends of the tub. Let me tell you some additional specifics about this double-ended tub.
Tub Dimensions
The tub length is 60 inches end to end and 31 inches wide. Stepping into the tub will not be an issue. Even though the tub is glamorous and looks tall it is actually 24 inches tall. Another name for these freestanding tubs like the Polk, is soaking or soaker tubs. They are called that because there is deep water to soak in. Polk has the capacity of 13 inches of water to relax in.
If you take a really good look at the photos you will see that there is a beautiful three inch rolled rim all around the tub with the exception of the spot for the faucet. This tub has been molded to have deck mount style faucets.
There is a flat spot on the deck or rim on the tub that has three holes in a row. The two holes on the outside are for the faucet stem/handles and the center hole is for the stem of the faucet. Because of the placement of the holes the tub requires a 7″ to center deck mount faucet. If there are no holes, use freestanding plumbing.
Necessary Fixtures
Look again at the pictures and you will see a hole on the inside wall of the tub. That hole is for the overflow assembly to attach to it so that splashing water will go down the overflow hole.
I have included a picture of a Drain & Overflow Assembly so that you can see how one device catches water from the hole in the tub wall and moves it into the drain pipe in the house.
Since the cast iron pedestal tub is all one piece it eliminates any difficulty of placing the heavy tub on the pedestal. Empty, the tub weighs 445 pounds. It is very easy to see that the tub is high quality and elegant.
Get one of these amazing cast iron tubs and you will never want any other kind of tub.
