Re-purpose Your Old Furniture

Re-purpose Your Old FurnitureTake a look around your house or think of all the things you need to replace.  Is your old wooden step latter on it’s last leg? Is your mattress tired and worn?  Before you throw away that old furniture you should check out these creative ways to repurpose.

Using an old mattress spring creates a interesting and eye catching message board.  Using hangers and clothes pins catches messages and other every day items and keeps them in one convienient spot.

Taking an old wooden step latter, adding some paint, and hanging it on a wall can create a unique custom display shelf that will attract a lot of attention and gives your wall a classic look.

Of course you can update any piece of furniture with a simple coat of paint.  Try a bold color to spice up your space.

Salvaging pieces from the dumpster can help you create a one of a kind piece.  One thrown out sawhorse may not give you something you can use, but find two, add a top and decorate to create a rustic style desk.

After decorating, you’re often left with extra material.  Look around your home to find a way to use it.  Even if that means entirely repurposing it.  Just because it should be a cabinet door, doesn’t mean it wouldn’t look fantastic as a focal piece on your mantle when surrounded by candles and other decorative knick knacks.

What would a decorating article be without at least one mention of chalk paint?  Grab a can and get to work turning everything you can into a chalk board that you can use all over the house.

Just because your grandmother gave you an old cupboard, but you don’t have anywhere to use a cupboard doesn’t mean you can’t use it somewhere else.  Think outside the box and use creative ways to turn one piece of furniture into something else such as an office desk.

If you have several scratches and dings on your furniture, don’t throw it away.  You can restore any piece with decoupage.  Using sheet music can add flair to an otherwise boring space and wil hid imperfections and neglect on your furniture.

If you’ve updated your headboard to something a little more modern but still have that old one, try cutting off the legs, adding some hooks and hanging it in your mud room to be used as a coat rack for your family and guests!  You can also add some decorative flair in the empty space above the hooks such as miss matched house numbers or other graphics.

Really when decorating your home thinking outside the box is key.  Wallpaper doesn’t have to be used on your walls.  Shutters don’t have to be used on your windows and mattresses don’t need to be used on your bed.
