10 Halloween Crafts For Kids

Halloween Crafts

Here is a link for 10 fun crafts for kids to do this Halloween from Apartment Therapy.  Here are my top 4 picks for the Halloween crafts.

Mummy Cards

  1. Cut a box into equal pieces (3.5″ x 5″) and the kids can do everything else by themselves.
  2. First, cut a 12″ strip off the end of a bandage (bought at the pharmacy) and set aside. Stick the leftover roll of bandage to the card and wrap the bandage around the card to create a mummy. Glue the end of the wrapped bandage to the card to prevent it from unraveling.
  3. Glue googly eyes onto the mummy.
  4. Take the 12″ strip of dressing that you retained and wrap it around the card – tie a knot or bow in the back. Slip your note behind the bow.

Spider Web Plates

The only supplies needed are a paper plate, scissors, and some yarn or thread. You could use grey, white, or black yarn or thread. We used black embroidery thread. If you have some of those plastic spider rings, those would be fun to string onto the web as you’re making it.

  • First, cut out the center of the paper plate.
  • Cut notches around the outside of the plate, every inch or so.
  • Tuck the end of the string or yarn into a notch and tape it in the back if desired.
  • Now, wind your string across the paper plate, tucking it into an opposite notch.
  • Continue winding the string back and forth across the opening in the plate until you are satisfied with your web.
  • For younger kids, you might want to use several lengths of string to keep it from getting too tangled.
  • If you’re using plastic ring spiders, make sure to thread them onto the string as you make the web.
  • Cut the string and tape it to the back of the paper plate.
  • Be sure not to pull to tight or you’ll curl the paper plate.

Paint Chip Monsters

  • Cut out all the features you’d like to glue on your monsters (eyes, bolts, mouths, hair, ect.)
  • After you’ve cut your paint chip cards into the size and shape you’d like, have the kids glue the faces on.
  • Display!

Halloween Paper Plates

Cut out the various shapes you’ll need to piece together the bat, pumpkin and Frankenstein. I used black craft foam for lots of the pieces but you could use black card stock if that’s what you have available. Black felt worked well for Frankenstein’s lovely hair. For younger children I like to have all the pieces cut out ahead of time so they can just have fun gluing everything to their plates. Older children will enjoy doing the cutting themselves or even adding the faces using markers.

Bat notes:  Paint the bats mouth first so it can dry then add the wings, ears and finish up with some googly eyes + of course his fangs. Create the rest of your paper plate Halloween characters as described above.
